The real difference
Numerology reduces a birth date into a small set of numbers. Meridian reads the Life Path and karmic debt from that arithmetic, so the chart remains centred on the person whose date was entered. Its meaning comes from numerical relationships within the date, not from a map of the surrounding world.
Qi Men Dun Jia begins with a tactical board. Meridian places the consultation moment in nine palaces, then reads the gates and stars across that grid in relation to the questioner's position and intended direction. A favourable door in one palace can matter because it describes where to move, approach, or avoid at that hour. Numerology identifies a birth-derived pattern. Qi Men reads the terrain of a particular decision.
These answer different kinds of question. Numerology reads your birth and describes something stable. Qi Men Dun Jia reads the moment you ask and speaks to one decision. Comparing their conclusions directly is a category error.
Which should you use

- Qi Men Dun Jia if your question is about one specific decision, right now.
- Both if you want to know whether a theme holds up when the machinery changes. That is the only thing reading two systems buys you, and it is worth more than it sounds.
Meridian lets you choose which method to cast, from one set of birth details. Read one, then read the other, and compare them yourself rather than trusting anyone's summary.
Recurrence across unrelated systems is not proof that either is true. It does tell you a reading is not an artefact of one method's machinery, which is the honest version of what comparing traditions is good for.
